The Story of Deckcheck - How I started my TCG Shop
Welcome to Deckcheck
Deckcheck was founded in July 2024 and was built with a dream. After being made redundant at my old job, I was scouring the job market for something to get myself back on my feet. After sending what feels like hundreds of applications, I only got silence back.
I have always been a fan of Pokemon. My first memories of Pokemon was coming home from school and watching the Diamond and Pearl anime series on DisneyXD. I remember hating Paul for treating Chimchar so poorly, so when I got the respective DS games, I chose Chimchar to show them that someone can care for them.
They ended up overlevelled and destroying most of the game.
Soon after, I noticed some kids playing with some cards in school. I approached them and someone lended me one of their Piplups to play along. I commanded my Piplup to attack but they dodged it, running their card into mine and 'blowing it up'. They said I lost the game. Looking back, that is not how the TCG plays, but I was hooked.
I remember my mum taking me into ToysRUs and buying some pokemon cards at the time. I don't remember anything about the packs, apart from my first holo being a Flygon, which cemented itself into my 'cool pokemon' list.
I collected for sometime until, like all childhood fads in the 2000's: The school banned it and people moved on. I dropped the cards and most of the games.
2022 comes around and a new, local store opened up near me. I went inside to find a whole bunch of retro goodies but I saw another thing stand out behind the counter: Pokemon Cards. At the time, Lost Origin had just released. They had a big poster on the wall with Giritina outside, which convinced me to, at least, dip my hands into some packs again.
I bought 10 packs. I opened them. I got 1 V card.
I was hooked, again.
I was buying booster boxes and ETBs, going to local tournaments, I even attended EUIC in 2023, 2024 and 2025. I was fully into playing the TCG and was building up an awesome collection. My favourite part of the game was going to trade nights and just showing off my binder, talking to the community and making a few trades on any cards I found cool that day.
It was on one of those trade nights is where my idea clicked.
I wanted to try selling pokemon cards.
A hobby
It was never intended to end up like this.
I started off with £400. I picked up 2 Twilight Masqurade Booster Boxes and 2 Temporal Forces Booster Boxes, the latest at the time.
I started a Tiktok Shop account and posted the products on there. After 3 days, nothing. It wasn't even being seen by anyone. I was worried, maybe I did make a mistake. So I thought id do a video on it. The video would be simple, just me pointing out the price in store and comparing it to my price.
It got 26,000 views. The packs were starting to sell.
I was only getting 1 order a day, 2 on weekends. But it was something. I was still applying to jobs at the time, but now 90% of my time was devoted to make this better.
I kept making videos on these products. Bundles. Deals. Discounts. Making sure everyone gets great value with me.
After a couple weeks, they were sold out. I was out of product.
So I ordered £600 worth of product.
Sold that. £800. Sold that. £1000. Sold.
A dream
In September, I decided to finally make the leap. With over 1000 tiktok followers at the time, as well as lots of stock, I stopped looking for jobs. I pushed for this full time with one goal: Make sure Pokemon is Affordable. Make sure kids can go through what I was when I was younger. The happiness of finding a new favourite pokemon because it was shiny. Letting people relax and get some cool products without breaking the bank.
Deckcheck grew and grew and grew. With the help of the community, we now have over 3000 followers on tiktok, over 6000 parcels shipped out and 1230 reviews (With a huge majority postive!) we are expanding Deckcheck to be even greater and better with every passing day.
New stock, New accessories, New places to be.
And we are happy to have you come join us on the ride.
